New Private School Opens in Pojoaque Valley

Innésence is a school where parents can realize their hopes for their children, rather than their fears.  “Unprecedented change and invention can tear at the family foundation and community values, unless education places what children learn academically within the larger context of community values”, says Finn Clark-Brown, principal and founder of the new school.  According to Clark-Brown, Innesence School provides an education where children face the future with a curriculum of certainty based on intellectual, character, performance and spiritual development.  The name “Innesence” is a playful, yet serious play on four phrases that reflect the school’s approach to

 learning.

Innesence School is a new small K-12 private school in Pojoaque Valley for the children of working and professional parents.  It is ideally situated in the spacious, newly renovated rooms of the historic hacienda on six tree-lined acres of Rocking Horse Ranch.  The buildings and grounds allow for a full day of learning activities of indoor and outdoor programs for students, and include a heated swimming pool, lawns and two 2-acre fields for soccer, archery, volleyball, tennis, and other ball, racquet and field sports.

The principal of the school has wide experience of writing school curricula and leading school programs in Transkei, South Africa and London, United Kingdom.  With experience as principal and teacher from kindergarten to college, he was awarded an educational fellowship based at the world-class university of Oxford in England, to study spirituality and the educational curriculum.  The implementation of holistic curricula in Africa and Europe caused the public school superintendent I.Z. Tsingiwe to write:  “His dedication to the teaching profession has made him wanted in every corner of the world.  His academic competence has made him liked by every member of his teaching staff, including the community members”.   His school committee and trustees of the schools he founded wrote:  “The flexibility and humility he has shown in his achievements has won him respect extending beyond this district.”

The school provides a full day that includes academic and character development, with an emphasis on performance and reflective self-assessment.  In addition to their grade level work, children each learn to play a musical instrument, participate in creative and performing arts, and learn a range of indoor and outdoor games, as well as the social responsibility of cross-peer tutoring.  Fees have been kept at $600 per month for an integrated program that starts before mom and dad need to be at work, and continues until the time children can be collected after work.  The parent-teacher association of the principal’s previous private school commended him:  “We have come to appreciate your accessibility, thoughtfulness and caring attitude in how you have addressed the challenges as Head of the School.  It must be gratifying to experience how the children hold you in such high esteem.  It is a pleasure as parents to witness their genuine fondness of you.”
